El Pueblito Paisa es el mayor mercado Latino de Inglaterra, este nació cuando un comerciante Colombiano en el 2001 compró una unidad en el mercado de Seven Sisters, poco a poco muchos otros Latinos lo han seguido. Estos Latinos decidieron entonces crear una compañía sin ánimo de lucro con el fín de atraer fondos para impulsar las ventas, el nombre dado a la compañía fue “Pueblito Paisa”. Allí se montaron todo tipo de negocios Latinos, como Salones de Belleza, agencias de Giros, tiendas de comida Colombiana, restaurantes, tiendas de ropa latina, carnicerías, tiendas de música, etc., por lo tanto este mercado atrajo muchos clientes Latinos. Los clientes empezaron a llamar al mercado “El Pueblito Paisa” y poco a poco se fue convirtiendo en un centro social y cultural Latino, un sitio a donde la gente no va necesariamente a comprar, si no que van a charlar, a socializar, a escuchar música Latina, a practicar el lenguaje Español, etc. En Julio 2007 los comerciantes oyeron el rumor de que la alcaldía local había aprobado un proyecto para demoler el edificio de Wards Corner (en donde se encuentra “El Pueblito Paisa”) y por supuesto acabar con el mercado. Se decidió entonces, empezar la campaña para salvar el mercado y el edificio. Este fue uno de los pasos más duros de dar, puesto que nadie creía que esto fuera posible. Han pasado ya más de cuatro años desde que la campaña empezó y ya hemos salvado el mercado, ahora nos falta salvar el edificio y las tiendas de afuera. The Pueblito Paisa is the biggest Latin American Market in England. It was born when a Colombian trader bought a unit in the Seven Sisters Market in 2001. Slowly many other Latin traders followed his idea. These traders decided then, to create a non profit company with the object of getting funds to increase their businesses. The name given to this company was "Pueblito Paisa". They set up different kind of Latin businesses in there, like beauty salons, money transfer agencies, Colombian grocery shops, restaurants, Latin fashion shops, butchers, music shops, etc. This market therefore attracted a lot of Latin clients. Clients started to call the market “El Pueblito Paisa”, and slowly it became a Latin social and cultural centre. This is a place where people do not necessarily go shopping, people go there to chat, to socialise, to listen to Latin music, to practice the Spanish language, etc. In July 2007 the traders, heard the rumour that the Haringey council had approved a project to demolish the Wards Corner building (where the “Pueblito Paisa” is) and of course to finish the market. It was decided then to start a campaign to save the market and the building. This was one of the hardest steps, as no one believed that this was possible. It has now been more than a year since the campaign has started and we have managed to save the market, now we still need to save the building and the outside shops.
